The Real Ghostbusters made its debut in 1986 as a Saturday morning cartoon, continuing the story of the beloved Ghostbusters franchise. The show became a global phenomenon, celebrated for its imaginative storytelling, unique animation style, and a voice cast that became as iconic as the original live-action actors. Alongside the series, Kenner’s toyline brought the Ghostbusters to life in homes everywhere with some of the most memorable, eccentric, and best-selling toys in pop culture history.
Fans can now revisit this classic series with The Real Ghostbusters: A Visual History, which provides a behind-the-scenes look at the show’s creation. The book combines rare and never-before-seen visuals, including conceptual artwork, storyboards, script excerpts, internal memos, packaging art, unseen prototypes, and abandoned concepts, along with new and exclusive interviews.
The book will be released in Summer 2025 in two editions. The hardcover edition offers a stunning overview of the series, while the deluxe edition elevates the experience with premium features such as a firehouse-inspired slipcase, two acetate "animation cel" replicas, and a firehouse flagpole ribbon bookmark. The deluxe edition is scheduled for release on June 17, 2025, with the standard edition following on July 1. Pricing is set at $99.99 for the deluxe edition and $49.99 for the standard edition.
Troy Benjamin, in addition to beng the longtime owner of Ghostbusteres HQ (when he was known as "Netsolo"), co-wrote the wonderful 2017 Ectomobile Owner's Workshop Manual, which I still consult from time to time.
This should be awesome.

The Real Ghostbusters 2024: The Sign Of The Twins, Part Two
June 13, 2024--Timeline Year Forty-Two
So just what did happen to Eden and John both on the day they were born and in the early morning hours of their twenty-fifth birthday? And why is John so incredibly terrified by the implications of it?
I'll let you know in advance: this chapter is very heavy in reprising material from The Real Ghostbusters: Gemini Rising; I felt like as a story I did a whole eighteen years ago, I wanted some way to get readers either up to speed or refresh their memories without having to go back and read the entire saga (Though cool if you do, of course). There's some material reprinted, but other parts are filtered through the perceptions of the involved parties, so I hope that keeps it a little more interesting than a simple dry infodump. At least a little bit?

Hasbro launch Ghostbusters Plasma Series Ectomobile HasLab
The Base Model pays homage to the original 1984 Ghostbusters film, featuring the iconic Ecto-1 and includes a removable rolling gurney and Plasma Series action figures of both Slimer and The Library Ghost, in addition to two different book accessories. The Deluxe Model offers all that, plus a conversion kit to transform the vehicle into Ghostbusters II’s Ecto-1A. This includes an ’89 roof rack with working lights, swappable hubcaps, a rear bumper, a license plate, and a caution-clad decal sheet.
Not stopping at making over the Ectomobile, fans hoping to further add to their Plasma Series collection will want to grab the Deluxe Model, as this comes with Ghostbusters II renditions of Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Egon Spengler, and Peter Venkman. Each ‘Buster features a new head sculpt and gets a Proton Pack with the stream. Also included are two Ecto-Charger Packs (Slime Blower) with plasma streams, a slime-filled toaster, a hot beverage thermal mug, and a free-balloon-for-the-kids accessory.
As a bonus, the unofficial fifth Ghostbuster, Louis Tully, is being offered as part of the bundle, requiring the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Ectomobile to trap the minimum backer amount within the first 14 days of the campaign. If the early bird special is unlocked in the first two weeks, EVERYONE who backs the project throughout the duration of the campaign will receive this figure, with planned accessories that include a Proton Pack, Ghost Trap, and PKE Meter.
Grife, I don't think I've heard anybody call the slime blowers "Ecto Chargers" since the Kenner packaging in 1989. But a Louis Tully? Are you trying to chase people away?
Speaking of other things I'd love to have but are beyond by price range...

Mondo unveil new Real Ghostbusters toys at NYCC
As for the reveals, in the photos below taken by @preterniadotcom, while the figures are still early in development, as promised, the line will continue following the releases of Peter Venkman and Egon Spengler with Ray and Winston joining the team. Fans can expect accessories similar to those in the previously showcased sets and while the ghosts are blacked out, the silhouettes suggest Winston will be paired with the Sandman, while Ray will come packaged with Gash.
Set for quarterly releases, the pricing is expected to remain consistent, with a two-pack featuring a Ghostbuster and a ghost available for $202, while each hero figure will be sold separately for $101.
In addition to the Sandman and Gash, another big tease was the unmistakable silhouette of Janine Melnitz.
Now this one is hurting not to get. Now if only the convenience store would quit selling me losing Powerball tickets, dammit...

There were also a number of mysteries left unresolved.
Well, now it's that far-flung future year of 2024. We've "caught up" to the Eden and John from that story, as seen at the end of Every Future Has A Past.
Time for some of those long-running unresolved mysteries to finally be addressed.
The Real Ghostbusters 2024: The Sign Of The Twins, Part One

Something odd is happening, and one powerful ally is looking for answers.

Yep. It's August, you know what that means--another Gen Con has been and gone.
Just watch out for the mimics.
As always, my first stop was Pointy Hat Games. They had a couple of expansions for their great game Elemental Conflux this year.
Took this picture of a guy dressed as Darth Vader just because it's a really cool cosplay. And I was afraid that he'd collapse my trachea if I didn't.
Balloon sculpture this year was a group of gnomes. I believe the collective word is "lawn"?
Got to chat some with the Circle City Ghostbusters. They're a pretty cool crew; I showed them the CCGB patch I got ten years ago from a now-former member of the group (Actually, according to the guys I talked to this year, Borzou was the founder of CCGB. Nice.)
This year marked fifty years since the release of the very first version of Dungeons & Dragons. Wizards of the Coast released the newest Player Handbook (I guess you can call it Edition 5.5) while on the second floor of the convention center there was a collection of book from the entire history of the line. Pictured above are the now-legendary original books released in 1974.
That wasn't the only news, of course...
Palladium Books has got the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license back! They were among, if not the, very first licensee back when the TMNT really were just Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird instead of a big soulless company like Viacom. Ogre and I played the hell out of that book back in the day, so it's quite a trip to see it coming back.
Paizo is now playtesting a second edition of their space fantasy game Starfinder. Curiosity about the first edition is what got me to finally take a look at Paizo about six years ago; I was blown away by Pathfinder's second edition, and Starfinder 2 is using the exact same game engine, making the two scenarios fully inter-compatible at least.
So what kind of haul did I come home with?
That's my badge, the Paizo buttons (they give a different one out each day), my Crystal Caste commemmorative dice tin, and the stuff we bought from Pointy Hat: the Elemental Conflux expansions and an interesting RPG they were selling on behalf of friends of theirs.
I saw this little guy at Toynk...
...And we ended up with two. I gave the other one to my nephew. Also pictured is Bandai's recent reissue of a model kit from Gundam SEED Destiny. It's not technically a Master Grade, but it's the same scale (1/100).
After three years Strange Machines finally had the expansion to their Robotech RPG detailing the second and third eras of the legendary series. Robotech Masters and The New Generation were never as popular as The Macross Saga, but I'm glad to finally have the entire "core" series. Also pictured are some map tiles I saw last year but didn't buy before they sold out.
The Terror Dog we got from aforementioned CCGB; the dice are complete opposites: one set is bouncy silicone (the "Greymon Dice" as Ogre dubbed them) while the other are made of metal and should definitely NOT be used on a bare table.
I got a number of minis this year (that I'll probably never get around to painting) including a bunch of fantasy staples like a wizard, a hobgoblin, a halfling, a gnome, and a killer frog among others. But when I was looking at a booth with a lot of Star Wars minis I noticed...
Random Slimer in the middle of the group! And the lady at the booth pointed out one Ghostbuster! They apparently have the other three available, they just weren't at the show! Nifty.
Just have to reach July 31, 2025 to do it all again!

The Real Ghostbusters 2024: Every Future Has A Past
By Ghostdiva and Fritz Buagh
June 2024--Timeline Year Forty-Two
Eden Spengler and Edward Sanders. Johnathan Spengler and TJ Anderson. One couple only met a few months ago, the other has known each other for three years. Both are grappling with emotions and questions they're not accustomed to. But the future is calling, and it's time for some decisions to be made, and lives to be lived instead of just dreamt about.
(First Posted May 13, 2024)
This is a collaboration of sorts--Ghostdiva, creator of Dr. Edward Sanders, sent me part of a story an embarassingly large number of years ago, and we agreed I'd finish it when the time was right. Well, since the story was inteded to take place in 2024 all along, and it's now actually 2024 for real, I knew it was time.
You might notice that the logo now says "The Real Ghostbusters"; as I explained back in April I'm making this slight change in presentation to make it a bit clearer that I'm mostly using older continuity based on the animated series.
Hope you'll give it a look.

Mondo Teases New Real Ghostbusters Action Figures
This will be interesting to see.
--Fritz V. Baugh
Fritz:Long time, no update, right?Well, I can confirm that I have a new story done and it has been sent to the beta readers.
The bad news is that I'm not planning on releasing it until June 8, 2021.
If you know that that date is, you can get an idea about what it concerns.
Terrace: So this'll involve the 2021 crew?
Fritz: Yes
Ghostdiva: Wait what? What 2021 team are we talking about here?
Well, the story I meant was Born to the Purple starring the Ectozone's current day Ghostbusters. But at the time, I can't even remember if the official name "Afterlife" had been revealed for the movie that Jason Reitman had been working on...so it was often referred to simply as "Ghostbusters 2021" (and "Ghostbusters 2020" before that, but Covid happened). I began to wonder if there was some way to make it a little clearer what I was still doing.
I mean, I made sure to put a disclaimer on my FFN profile stating "I came up with this continuity twenty years ago--Afterlife isn't part of it". And for the most part, I just don't want to write in that universe. And I'm sure I'm chasing away potential readers by saying that, but, well, so be it.
And I wondered if there was a way to make it clearer. Might it be time for a slight bit of rebranding to my stories?
Back when I started, two movies, The Real Ghostbusters, and Extreme Ghostbusters were all there were in official Columbia Pictures product. At the time my operating paradigm "It's all part of the same reality and it's all Ghostbusters". And I labeled most of my stories accordingly...
Even if I drew the characters looking like this:
So maybe it's time I more obviously embraced what I knew years ago, but 2021 drove it home to me: I can't pretend to be anything but an alternate universe fanon anymore. I'm not in continuity with the current movies and honestly, with Deadbeat Dad Egon and that entire backstory, I don't really want to be.
But maybe the answer is rather simple. Quit labeling everything simply as "Ghostbusters". Because I still consider most of what I do a more or less valid future to the two animated series
So what am I considering? It's kinda simple...
If I do this rebranding, every story that currently sports this logo:
Will change to this one:
Short, simple, makes it clear that the product is based on an extension of animated continuity instead of using Afterlife and Frozen Empire as their canon.
Similarly, I've come up with a new way of labeling the stories of the Ectozone's 2020's Ghostbusters.
Instead of this:
They'll get a new logo looking like this:
A few important clarifications:
This won't affect anything in the stories themselves. I'm not going to go all Marvel UK and having the characters start being referred to as "The Real Ghostbusters" in the stories themselves, anymore than the character played on TV by Ncuti Gatwa and over a dozen people before him is actually named "Doctor Who". (You'd think since Marvel UK was publishing the DW magazine at the time, they'd know how this works )
Extreme Ghostbusters stories and franchise stories (ie Ghostbusters West Coast Division) will not be changed. Apocrypha stories will be left alone. "Chronicles of Gozer" I intend to relabel as Ghostbusters International stories.
I haven't completely committed to this idea yet. I want to hear from all of the few people still reading this site--there'll be a thread on the Ectozone Message Board in the "Fritz, You Suck" forum for comment on the matter. If I do go forward with it, I'll probably upload the updated pages on either May 13 (the Ectozone anniversary) or June 8 (the Ghostbusters anniversary)
And if you wonder what it would look like, here's some temporary examples of the new proposed look:

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’s Release Date Pushed Forward By Sony
The move positions the film to capitalize on another week of spring break viewership in a fairly open window, opening against Lionsgate’s Mark Wahlberg adventure pic Arthur the King and Focus Features’ The American Society of Magical Negroes, among other titles.
But wait!!! There's more!!!
Empire Magazine Has Cover Article on Frozen Empire
There are two different covers. One has the new crew, the other the three surviving OG Ghostbusters...as well as Janine in a flight suit! Movie Universe Janine in a flight suit! Hell yes!!!
Interestingly, she and Callie are the ones not wearing Proton Packs. Egon's daughter and the woman who SHOULD have been her mother. Interesting.
Anything else?
Ghostbusters Frozen Empire Toys Appearing In The Wild
The "Fright Features" toys from Afterlife are being recycled into a new series of "basic" figures. Available now are Phoebe, Trevor, Callie, and Gary. Trevor is the exact same figure as the GBA version except he now has a nametag; Gary uses the same buck as the OGB figures from the earlier line (with a new head sculpt, of course), and both Phoebe and Callie are new head sculpts both used the buck from the previous Lucky Domingo figure. No sign of Lucky, Podcast, or the surviving OGBs yet. (Even better if they give us a flight suit Janine, even if it also reuses the Lucky body).
And believe it or not, those aren't the only Fright Features rereleases Hasbro's doing!
Hasbro’s The Real Ghostbusters Kenner Classics Fright Features begin to arrive on toy shelves
Yep, straight from 1988, the original line of Ghostbusters variant figures make their return to toy shelves. Like the Series 1 reissues a few years back, they fixed Winston's name and everything. No Janine repop though.
So...that's enough, right?
TOO BAD!!! WE'RE NOT DONE YET!!!
Extreme Ghostbusters FINALLY Coming On DVD
Airing initially in 1997, "Extreme Ghostbusters" follows a fresh team of paranormal investigators led by the original Ghostbusters member, Egon Spengler. Their mission? Safeguarding New York City from otherworldly threats.
For the first time, fans can own the complete series in one DVD set, providing a convenient way to dive into the supernatural escapades. This release coincides with the ongoing expansion of the Ghostbusters universe, offering both new and returning fans a chance to delve into the realm of the paranormal.
To reserve your copy ahead of the official release, the DVD set is open for pre-orders on Amazon at a cost of $20.95
It's about time!!!

We all know what the big thing coming in 2024 is...
March 29 will be here before you know it.
Bad news: It's an election year, and this asshole...
...Is running AGAIN!!! I was tired of hearing about the diaper-loading fascist pervert by this time eight years ago. Why won't he just fucking go away?!
(exhale)
Okay, I'm okay now.
As for the Ectozone...
The Future Unfurls:
2024 is already known as being a big year for the Ectozone universe's Ghostbusters of 2024. Eden Spengler is soon to meet someone interesting, and if you read "The Monster of Lungbarrow" it looks like things are definitely heating up for her brother John. There's going to be developments on both fronts soon enough, I promise.
And one more thing...
Remember that the characters "Romulus" and "Pollux" seen in "Gemini Rising" said they came from 2024.
There's been a lot of alleged revelations in that story that have been left dangling for over fifteen years.
They won't be dangling much longer...
Have a safe and happy Thirty Fourth Year of the Age of Aquarius.
