It'd have to be heavily alternate universe. I just don't see it being very plausible based on the movies and RGB canon.

I'm not directing this at you Farah, but it seems that most of the ones who come up with this stuff are Ray fans who go "Since he's my favorite I think he should be the one who gets the only girl in the series". Nevermind that Ray has one possible Canon love interest, Elaine Fuhrman, is also ripe for original characters (as Elaine only made one appearance early on and was never heard from again), and, oh yeah, Janine already has two canon love interests (one very popular one, one not) from the movies and RGB.

Interestingly enough, though, I never see stories where Ray gets together with Dana, which to me is just as silly and implausible. It's like she's all but hands-off for non-canon pairings just because she wasn't in the cartoons?

Plus I wanted to be very different from the Ray fangirls and write Ray/Elaine together. Sometimes I feel that they would bully me for doing so. I don't think that's fair at all. They tried to dictate to me what I can write and what I cannot.

Well within your rights. They have the right to not like the Ray/Elaine pairing, but not to tell you you can't do it in your own stories, in your own personal universe. I hate Egon/Mary Sue stories with a passion, but I will not tell anybody they can't do them (just that they can't do them and expect to be accepted into the GBOT universe canon)

And as far as the earlier comment about "Since he's my favorite I think he should be the one who gets the only girl in the series" I do have to point out that plenty of Venkman fans, and even a Winston fan or two have done the same thing.

(And this is leaving aside the stories of Janine with Ray, or Venkman, or ect. done by some of the Egon fans under the theory that Janine+Somebody Else leaves open Egon+Mary Sue. But that's better suited for discussion elsewhere...)
