I thought I'd post up a bit of info about the main characters' Chinese Astrology signs.

They do & mean well & are much respected. With their desire to do right Dogs do tend to worry, but are hard working & dependable.
Other years for the Dog: 1934, 1946, 1970, 1982, 1994 & 2006.

Egon & Louis, 1957: (this makes Egon's transformastion into a Were-Chicken in Poultrygeist seem even funnier...) Rooster: Roosters are careful, methodical & like to plan ahead. They also keep themselves informed & can be impressive speakers, even if sometimes forthright. They have style & presence & care deeply for loved ones.
Other years for the Rooster: 1933, 1945, 1969, 1981, 1993 & 2005.

Peter, 1954, Roland & Garrett, 1978: (Garrett was born in 1978 of the Chinese year...) Horse: Born under the sign of elegance & ardor, Horses have a style & set about much in their own way. They are strong willed, work hard & take their commitments seriously. Horses enjoy socialising & conversation & are often outdoor enthusiasts.
Other years for the Horse: 1942, 1966, 1990 & 2002.

Dana, 1955, Kylie & Eduardo 1979: (this so applies to Dana...) Goat: Born under the sign of art, Goats are creative, observant & have a good understanding of human nature. They are sociable & particularly value the support they receive for their various activities. Goats also appreciate the good things in life & attach much importance to home life.
Other years for the Goat: 1943, 1967, 1991 & 2003.

Ray, 1959: (this describes Ray to a tee) Pig: Pigs work hard, are determined & enterprising, but also like their pleasures. They enjoy socialising & with their trusting natures get on well with most. Pigs very much value home life.
Other years for the Pig: 1935, 1947, 1971, 1983, 1995 & 2007.

Winston, 1953: (this is pretty good for Winston) Snake: Snakes may appear quiet & sometimes reserved but are thoughtful & ambitious. They are prepared to work long & hard for the things they want. Snakes have wide interests, a good sense of humour & are loyal & protective to those close to them.
Other years for the Snake: 1941, 1965, 1977, 1989 & 2001.

Oscar, 1988 (& Me, 1976): The Dragon: Born under the sign of luck, Dragons are active, enthusiastic & determined. They also have a great sense of style & use their strengths & personality well. They are outgoing & sociable, but value their independence.
Other years for the Dragon: 1940, 1952, 1964 & 2000.

John & Eden, 1999 (because I have a special place in my heart for them): Rabbit: Good natured & easygoing Rabbits are all for an agreeable lifestyle. They are careful in their actions & wary of risk. Lol...that's awesome. Eduardo even looks like a goat. Garrett called him "Goat Boy" in the show, and I have him call Eduardo "Torgo" (after the goat man in Manos: The Hands of Fate, one of the worst movies of all time.)

Let's see...

Chelsea Aberdeen would be a Snake (1977)

TJ Anderson (John's future love interest): Tiger (1998)

Eric Stantz: Rat (1996, just like this year)

This is fun. Maybe I aught to start a thread about Western astrology or something...

My fan kids, Julianna Raelynn and Carlton James Stantz in my timeline they were born in 1996 so that makes them the Rat.

I didn't even put the two together about Eddie. I remember Garrett calling him goat boy now! And about how he looks like a goat! LOL. You're right!

I'd love to see a Western Astrology thread. The descriptions of the characteristics always fascinates me when comparing them to a person's personality traits because they're usually very similar.

BTW I'm a Taurean & so is Winston! And the late great Lorenzo Music, bless him.

This is a little more complicated because of how broken up the signs are througout the year & also not very well known, but in ancient Egyptian Astrology I'm Horus, Falcon Headed God of the Sky & son of Osiris & Isis.

So I'm a Bull, a Dragon and a Falcon! Don't risk my wrath! :x Just kidding. ;)

I'm glad you guys like the thread.

She's probably going to end up a lot like her Dad, then. 1971 is another Pig year, after all. :)

Funny thing. I'm suddenly all interested in Chinese Astrology since I saw a Chinese exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum yesterday, and I bought myself a funky little souvenir bracelet made of little wooden figures of all the twelve zodiac animals.

I don't know how reliable the Wikipedia article is, but that's where I've got all my information. :D I read the story about the race in the river, which my brother tells me we heard at school, but I don't remember. It's a cool story, though - I'm already thinking of the fanfic possibilities. :P

Anyway. It says that there is more to who a person is than just the year in which they're born, according to this system. The year animal merely represents how others see you, and how you present yourself. You also have an inner animal, which represents what you are inwardly, based on the month in which you are born; and a secret animal, which represents your secret characteristics, and only you, your parents, the midwife who delivered you and maybe a few other people are likely to know what that is. It's determined by the hour in which you were born.

There's also something about solar longitude and fixed elements, but that's too complicated for me, at least today.

As for the Ghostbusters characters, I don't know how much we've decided about what time they were born, but Fritz has come up with some birthdays for everyone. So, let's have a look at the EGBs' (as they're my favourites) inner animals:

Eduardo, born July 18th (making his inner animal the same as mine): his inner animal is also the goat/sheep/ram (Jul 7-Aug 6). I guess that means that with him, what you see is what you get?

Kylie, born February 12th: tiger (Feb 4-Mar 5). According to Wikipedia, she is inwardly: Unpredictable, rebellious, colourful, powerful, passionate, daring, impulsive, vigorous, stimulating, sincere, affectionate, humanitarian, generous. Can be restless, reckless, impatient, quick-tempered, obstinate, selfish.

Roland, born September 21st: rooster (Sep 8-Oct 7). Acute, neat, meticulous, organized, self-assured, decisive, conservative, critical, perfectionist, alert, zealous, practical, scientific, responsible. Can be over zealous and critical, puritanical, egotistical, abrasive, opinionated.

Garrett, born January 3rd: rat (Dec 7-Jan 5). Forthright, disciplined, systematic, meticulous, charismatic, hardworking, industrious, charming, eloquent, sociable, shrewd. Can be manipulative, cruel, dictatorial, rigid, selfish, obstinate, critical, over-ambitious, ruthless, intolerant, scheming, sturdy.

Well, I should say that some of that's accurate and some of it isn't.

One day, I might work out the outer, inner and secret animals of all my fan kids... or at least some of them. I'd have to look over all my fanfics, see if I give any indication of their time and birth, make it up if I haven't and go from there.

But the one kid I know had a time of birth, more or less, is Jessica Venkman. She was born shortly before 10 p.m., on April 1st 1993. So that would make her:

Outer animal: rooster
Inner animal: rabbit
Secret animal: pig (or boar)

Hmm... going by what Wikipedia says, anyway, I should say that none of that's true of our Jess.

Well, I just found out I'm a Fire Dragon since I was born in 1976. And there's other elements for Dragons such as Wood, depending on the specific Dragon year you were born in.
I don't know if it's the same for other signs.
This stuff is fascinating.
