Welcome to the asylum. (Fritz hasn't figured out a new way to say that yet.)

Well, Fritz, while I have SOME issues with a few of the characters and portrayals, overall, I found the fiction here quite top notch and highly enjoyable, as well as the continuously evolving artwork you do. And the constant face slapping of the Mary-Sue characters that stain many fandoms everywhere...Gott'a love it. ^^

And let me say that the ribbing at FGB, which IMO never should have even been made and would not have been if not for Filmation's desire to cash in on a craze that they had no right too, was genius. I went and watched just one episode of that atrocity and was wishing I could scrub the memory out. And the irony of a Kong boy becoming a GB of the RGB variety was perfect.

Please feel free to be more specific in the appropriate threads.

For interest of full disclosure, that wasn't my idea. "Peter Kong" was the user name of a member of GBN who was one of the founders of the GBWC. He hasn't been around in a few years, which is why his character was eventually written out of the story.

Another "Fresh Meat" here (or so the title says).

Been a fan of RGB ever since that was aired (albeit not in its entirety, cutting off at Elementary My Dear Winston) in our parts in 1993 and 1994. I taped quite a bit of those series and loved them dearly - so much as to remember most of them by heart for years upon years. Loved the music a lot as well.

(fast forward 15 years) Out of a whim I decided to find RGB again and procured a bunch of TV and Satellite rips as a heap of MPEG videos. Then I started looking up some fan content and chanced upon this site. The fics written by Fritz and the gang struck me as excellently written and so I stayed, lurking about. I decided to join so that I could comment on a few stories but frankly I'm not sure I'll be a frequent poster as these boards don't seem very lively - no offense to the admin.

And a bit about myself... I'm currently 29, male, residing in St. Petersburg (though not the one in Florida unfortunately :)), a newspaper editor / also photographer / also translator and also studying at the local university. I'm totally lazy and really only interested in three things: heavy metal music, Ghostbusters and photography (most of the money goes towards the latter as I'm sort of a gear junkie).

I have a few ideas for fan fics of my own and even laid out a story that I'd love to get done but severe shortage of time precludes me from finishing it. I would gladly make it fit the Omnibus Timeline of course if I get some counseling from the Ectozone luminaries - but that seems somewhat far off. Maybe in January or February.

It's been busier in the past, I promise. I've spent most of the last year on a semi-sabbatical, but I think I'm going to be posting more stuff soon. It will hopefully pick up, and I hope you provide us your insights on what comes up.

I look forward to it--maybe a new story or two from anybody would help jump start things a little. Feel free to ask any questions, either on the forums or, if it's something you don't want to be seen by "the public", a PM.

Thanks again for your support and comments!

Sounds very familiar. I myself find it very hard to split time between two jobs, university and family and still find time for any hobbies (I used to do a lot of game modding in the past - mostly for Starcraft - but it all fell by the wayside) apart from travelling - but that can't happen too often either because there's only so much vacation time in a year...

So thanks to the randomness of the internet, I found myself here. Very interesting stories, neat reads for sure. Also, hello.

Thanks, and welcome to the nut house. I hope to eventually have more "interesting stories" out eventually, though the big one I'm working on has been going slower than I'd like.

Feel free to look around and comment on what you see.

So, reading and reading and reading, and reading more. Is this all from your rpg experiences, or just a wicked imagination? Some of the stuff written reminds me of a..not so dark, but still dark world of darkness version of the ghostbusters. Not complaining, just really entertained.

A lot of it came from RPGs. From a campaign on the West End Games GBI system back during the days RGB was on the air, and bits and pieces of other games, including some WoD stuff in the 90's.

I got into the World of Darkness big time in the mid 90's (like a lot of other people) and still gleefully steal stuff from it. Parts of it work pretty well--the "genetic werewolf" from the RGB comics was easy to revise into a Garou (Irena Cortez, who appears in "Zodiac Imperative" and "Chronicles of Gozer"). Heck, part of the reason I liked Mage was the Sons of Ether: "Egon Spengler!" was pretty much the first thought when I saw those guys.

I don't really care much about the current WoD, but love the hell out of Ars Magica's fifth edition (AM is now published by Atlas Games, but was created by the company that became White Wolf, and Mage: The Ascension and Vampire: The Masquerade used elements of it in their backstories)

I enjoy using the stuff but don't take every little utterance as canon in the GBOT universe. How could I? The Technocracy probably would have blown up GBCentral about six hours after the first commercial came out.

But it's a great scenario with some well developed background elements and ideas. I do like the idea that there are communities of creatures of the night out there trying to get by, and as long as they don't go on bloodsoaked rampages, GBI is gonna leave them alone.

And when they do, I have a story.

Heh, I hear ya, I got into wod in the late 90's I was in my later teens then. And yeah, the gozer chronicles's mages reminded me alot of well.."mage." And yeah, the techno-nuts would have nuked gb hq from orbit and called it a day.

Truth be told, I've talked to the "band" and we're thinking about starting a gb game. Mostly because I run the damn games, in general, and had the "I should watch ghostbusters" again vibe. Which lead me to the internet, after watching a movie or 2, using net flicks to stream the cartoon and going through the "Vault" or as my significant other calls it "Your nerd hall." Gets the gears going. And since I was able to find the actual gb game books online, for free, no pirating I promise-http://www.gbfans.com/games/ I may actually do it. Though, I might use one of the other million dice systems out there. Hell Shadowrun's system might work. *ponders*

Truth to tell, my collaborator and beta reader Vincent Belmont actually doesn't care much for "Mage", but adores "Ars Magica", and since as mentioned the former did evolve originally out of the latter, there's going to be some resemblance. I have a word file on my computer which details the Order of Hermes in 2011: part our own ideas, part Mage, and a few in-jokes from other properties. It comes out in bits and pieces, and quite a few in the upcoming story "Primus XXIV", but at the end of the day the stories are about the Ghostbusters, so it will probably stay mostly unrevealed.

I guess I have to mention Micheal Tresca's D20 Modern-based game, mostly because I'm listed as a collaborator on it, though at the time I had no idea about D20 and all the rules went over my head. (I'm a little better now, though, having been exposed to D&D 3.0 and Star Wars Saga Edtion over the last year) My contribution was permission to use stuff from the Timeline.

Of course, since you found the GBFans page about the GBI game, you probably knew about this already, so I'll shut up about it now.

Hello, some of you may have seen me around the various GB community sites (specifically GBN), but most of you haven't a foggiest who I am. So in case you are the latter, let me introduce myself. Contrary to my internet pseudonym, my name is Thomas, but you can call me James, Thomas...even Cath or Catharis (WoW character name [have actually answered to that in person before]) if you wish.

I unfortunately missed the first Ghostbusters movie in theaters during it’s original run (due in part to the fact that I was 5 months old at the time), but my infatuation with the franchise began early enough at a rip young age when I was first introduced to the Real Ghostbusters (much to my overtly religious parents chagrin). Almost immediately I found a favorite character in that of Egon with his dry wit and monotone voice. For much of my childhood I, ignorantly, believed that Egon was the leader of the Ghostbusters. This was based off of a observation of his technical no-how, the fact that the other ‘busters seemed to go to him for all their questions and the fact that it seemed to me like everything was always happening to him…it wasn’t until years later when I finally got to see the movies that I was finally correct of this error. Even now I hold a special place in my heart for Spengs and Maurice LaMarche portrayal of him, who, in my mind will always be more Egon that Ramis

Also, it's good to see a PHPBB board again lol. I am assuming 3?

Lol...welcome to the nut house. True fact: "Fritz" isn't my real name either. Back in high school I took German, and had to pick a German name to use in class. Thus I decided to keep it as a pen/internet name.

I seem to remember GBN interviewing James Van Hise, and he pretty much agreed that "in the cartoon, Egon's the real leader." I suspect JMS's affection for the character had something to do with it; I think after he left Jansen and Menville tried to "correct" that some, but since Dave Coulier's Venkman sounded so stupid it didn't really work.

Yeah, here it is:
http://archive.ghostbusters.net/article/50/
James Van Hise wrote:
When I met Harold Ramis and mentioned that in the cartoon shows Egon was the leader of the Ghostbusters, he was surprised to hear this.

I did get to exchange a few letters with Van Hise myself, and I kick myself hard every time I remember that I somehow lost them over the years. Even if he'd never written anything else, he gets kudos for the on-panel trashing the Janine/Louis mistake in RGB#16

Thankfully he did write other stuff; Mister Blaque has been lingering around the fringes of things in my stories for years now.

Yep. PhpBB3.0.8. I've been using it since....I think it was RC5, before it went gold.

Funny story: back in June or July 2007 Bo Holbrook loaded 3.0.RC3 onto the Nightsquad board, which I helped Admin at that time. I so fell in love with the software I eventually changed the Ectozone's hosting just so I could start this board. (To see what I did before that, follow the Ectozone Forum Archive link on the main board page)

Once again, welcome to the Ectozone.
